Rocks, beer, and baseball: The American Way.
All in all, I just came out of a pretty awesome weekend, the kind of weekend that makes you really want to stab yourself going back to work on Monday. Ah but the work of a CAMPUSPEAKer is never done, and so I proceeded along on Monday morning, sparing myself of the stab wounds and only slightly mournful of the conclusion of my good times. Now that beautiful summer weather is settling in Colorado, I'd be willing to bet there are more good times ahead.
Saturday was a beautiful day- almost 80 degrees, bright blue skies, and hardly a cloud to be seen. Shockingly, Darci was off Target (and Alex was off galavanting about the state with fraternity engagements), so we decided to make use of the day and head up to the Coors Brewery in Golden. So a road trip it was, and armed with giant bottles of Smart Water (to hydrate prior to the beer) and bags of Twizzlers, we were off. Windows down, Kenny Chesney blaring, the sun scorching my unknowingly exposed arm as it rested on the car door as we cruised. An overall perfect venture.
Golden is one of those towns where if you blink as you drive through, you miss it. Furthermore, a landmark such as the Coors Brewery is nowhere nearly as well labeled as one would imagine. And I guess that we must have blinked, because we missed it. I realized this shortly after the fact and planned to turn around as quickly as possible, but we found ourselves driving into the depths of the Clear Water Canyon. A beautiful clear water (they don't play around with the name of the place!) creek ran along one side of the road, and gorgeous, rocky mountains bordered both sides of the road, making you feel both in complete undeniable AWE, and midly claustrophobic at the same time. It was purely gorgeous. There were tunnels cut stright through the mountain that we drove through, and gorgeous waterfalls running down the rock mountains. Literally, our mouths dropped as we drove through. The kind of place that's almost spiritual... as we discussed, we couldn't imagine anyone denying the existence of God when you see this kind of beauty.
We hit up the Coors Brewery and did the short tour- the one that essentially leads you straight to the free beer samples and enjoyed the tasty beverages, and then strolled around the bookstore. Around 4 we decided to roll out and head back to Denver in time to catch the Rockies game against the Braves.
Searrching for a good sports bar where we could actually get in on a game day was going to be a feat, but we stumbled upon a cool little bar called "The Dugout" that is hidden right down from Falling Rock and up the street from the Tavern. It was underground so it was nice and cool, which is exactly what we were going for. After we ate we hit up the Rockies game, where we of course got tickets for the Rockpile, and wound up having the best picture taking seats in the place. It was pretty sweet.
Capped the day off falling asleep in front of Season 2 of Grey's Anatomy, and you have just about the most fabulous day ever!
Sunday I spent working on Alpha Phi volunteer stuff, and laying out with Shannon. During this two hour period I managed to get slightly charred, which was fabulous. Well, my face wasn't burned but my chest and my right arm (see previous day) are a lovely shade of red. :) Ah well, it was worth it. Wonderful, wonderful weekend. Love Denver.
Oh. And tomorrow... I get to go home!! Robin's Cinco de Mayo party is about to jump off, plus I get a day with the family and some trigger point injections. Life is good. :)
